ENS submits proposal to activate ENSv2 naming upgrade on Ethereum

If approved, new .eth registrations would be paused for hours while the original registrar is frozen, and existing holders could keep renewing without migrating.

Ethereum Name Service, or ENS, has submitted a proposal to its decentralized autonomous organization to activate an upgraded Ethereum mainnet naming protocol, called ENSv2, according to Cointelegraph.

Cointelegraph reports that ENS founder Nick Johnson filed an executable draft proposal for the activation of ENSv2 on the Ethereum mainnet.

The proposed upgrade would freeze new registrations on the original ENS registrar while letting existing .eth domain holders renew their names without migrating, Cointelegraph said.

The upgrade also includes a redesigned registry architecture intended to provide more flexible domain management and permission controls, Cointelegraph added.
