Home search portals can miss dozens of listings, study finds
The Consumer Policy Center found 83.4% of properties appeared on three or more sites, but gaps were larger on Redfin and Homes.com, especially for homes under $500,000.
HousingWire reports that a Consumer Policy Center analysis found inventory overlap is high across four major U.S. home listing portals, but some sites still miss properties that appear elsewhere.
The study examined more than 2,000 listings for 500 properties across 21 communities in or near 10 major metro areas during August and September 2026, concluding that Zillow, Realtor.com, Redfin, and Homes.com largely show overlapping core MLS-derived property data.
HousingWire said the portal inventory differences show up most for lower-priced homes, with larger gaps on Redfin and Homes.com for homes under $500,000.
It also found that Compass coming soon listings appeared only on Redfin as Early Access, and it cited inventory coverage differences for contract status and other listing details.
