Ledger says a covert chip in CryptoBilis devices could steal wallet keys

Ledger said it provided its first public account of how the covert component could extract users’ master keys without altering Ledger software.

CoinDesk reports that Ledger said a covert component, described as a “spy” chip, was found in certain CryptoBilis hardware-wallet devices.

In its first public explanation, Ledger said the covert chip could transmit wallet keys over a mobile network.

Ledger also said the alleged key theft could occur without changing Ledger’s software, according to CoinDesk.
