Mexico reports deaths and missing people after Hurricane Simon, Tropical Storm Rachel
Authorities linked the casualties to Hurricane Simon and Tropical Storm Rachel, with Simon weakened to a Category 2 as its winds and rain hit areas near Puerto Vallarta.
South China Morning Post reports Mexico’s authorities said at least two people were killed and 10 were reported missing after severe weather from Hurricane Simon and Tropical Storm Rachel battered parts of the country.
The outlet said Hurricane Simon was moving along the Mexican Pacific coast and Tropical Storm Rachel had reached Baja California, while Simon weakened to a Category 2 storm with its eye just offshore.
SCMP Economy added that Simon’s strongest winds and rainfall were affecting communities between the Sierra Madre and the ocean, with forecasts indicating the most powerful conditions would persist off the coast of Puerto Vallarta.
The outlet also reported that more rain and isolated thunderstorms could affect the southwest United States, and forecasters issued flood watches after Rachel’s remnants caused severe flooding in Las Vegas over the weekend.
