Most asset managers monitor tokenization, adoption remains limited
A Cerulli Associates study found 63% of asset managers are tracking tokenization, while just 20% use blockchain technology to streamline operations.
Tokenization remains a widely discussed idea in asset management, but most firms are not yet using it, according to research cited by ETF Trends.
Cerulli Associates found that 63% of asset managers are monitoring tokenization without current plans to adopt it, and only 20% use blockchain technology to streamline operations, which the firm identified as the top use case.
The tokenization concept centers on moving ownership records for fund shares or other assets onto a blockchain shared digital ledger, framed by Cerulli as an upgrade to financial infrastructure rather than a shift into digital assets.
Cerulli also highlighted ETF momentum, with ETFs pulling in $524.8 billion in the second quarter, while long-term mutual funds lost $164.3 billion over the same period, and it said tokenized ETFs are still “early” with “moderate” future opportunity.
