Mutual funds concentrate bets as IPO market grows crowded

SIP contributions hit record levels, with September at ₹32,490 crore and FY26 rising 20.8% year-on-year to ₹3.50 trillion.

LiveMint Markets reports that record systematic investment plan inflows are expanding mutual funds’ investible pools, but a crowded primary IPO market is pushing managers toward a narrower set of large, high-conviction deals.

According to data cited from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI), SIP contributions hit ₹32,490 crore in September. Equity mutual fund inflows also rose 30.6% month-on-month, while SIP inflows reached an all-time high of ₹32,297 crore in August.

The outlet said that in FY26, SIP contributions increased 20.8% year-on-year to ₹3.50 trillion. It also noted that fund managers are concentrating bets in sectors including financial services, manufacturing, and new-age IT.

LiveMint Markets attributed the selective stance to a wait-and-see approach tied to market outlook and geopolitical instability, citing comments from Amit Ramchandani, CEO and head of investment banking, about investors holding back cash due to war and other factors.
