Revamped Huanggang Port opens in Shenzhen, drawing early crowds
Hong Kong travel agency Big Line Holiday ran among the first tours after the Monday opening, with about 1,000 people joining activities and 20 tour groups scheduled between 10am and 1pm.
Hong Kong travel agencies and border shops reported brisk early business after the revamped Huanggang Port opened in Shenzhen, as thousands of visitors entered through the upgraded control point on Monday.
Hong Kong outlet SCMP Economy reports that agents said the port’s 24-hour joint clearance arrangements could boost cross-border tourism, though crowd control measures reduced trade near the checkpoint entrance.
Tour groups organised by Hong Kong travel agency Big Line Holiday were among the first visitors, with the agency chairwoman saying about 1,000 people took part in the tours and 20 groups were scheduled between 10am and 1pm.
Plans for additional tours were to be determined after the first few days, as the agency staggered tour time slots to avoid overwhelming the new checkpoint.
