South Korea moves to block access to 27 crypto websites
The Financial Intelligence Unit said the move targets unregistered exchanges and other virtual asset service providers, which authorities warned could make withdrawals difficult for customers.
South Korean authorities have approved measures to block domestic access to 27 websites operated by unregistered crypto exchanges and other virtual asset service providers, including KuCoin, MEXC, Phemex and Bitrue, according to Cointelegraph.
The Financial Intelligence Unit said the decision followed reviews by the Korea Media and Communications Standards Commission on Oct. 6 and 7, and it published the approvals in an announcement on Tuesday.
Cointelegraph added that the list of blocked platforms also includes CoinW, BTCC, BitMart, BingX and DigiFinex, among others.
Authorities acknowledged the restrictions are aimed at platforms that have not registered under South Korea’s relevant reporting and use framework, and they warned that customers could have difficulty withdrawing assets.
