Swiss Re says more reinsurance capital is needed for rising risks

Ahead of the 2026 Baden-Baden gathering, Swiss Re said it plans to align alternative capital selectively, citing growing interconnected risks.

Swiss Re executives said the reinsurance market needs additional capital to keep pace with growing interconnected risks, according to remarks made ahead of the 2026 Baden-Baden gathering.

Artemis reports that Leopoldo Camara, head of P and C reinsurance for Northern, Central and Eastern Europe, said the company sees more capital flowing into the markets and the reinsurance industry and described it as positive because additional capacity is required.

Camara also said different types of capital play different roles across the industry, and that Swiss Re will use its risk expertise to align alternative capital where it makes sense.

He further emphasized Swiss Re capital's commitment to multi line reinsurance, pointing to the company’s ability to cover life and health as well as property and casualty, including both short tail and long tail coverage.
