Bright MLS to expand seller privacy, add AI data protections
The MLS will add a new “Registered” listing status, allowing listings to meet a two-day submission rule without public exposure.
HousingWire reports that Bright MLS will roll out rule updates later this summer aimed at giving sellers more control over property data and adding protections around the use of listing information in artificial intelligence applications.
Among the changes, Bright will introduce a new “Registered” listing status for cases where a property is not yet ready for public marketing. The move is designed to keep agents compliant with the requirement that listings be submitted to the MLS within two calendar days of signing a listing agreement, while restricting exposure before marketing begins.
The updates also expand seller privacy and pre-marketing options, including photo and price suppression controls and unified display standards for consumer search. Bright is consolidating its IDX and VOW rules into a single “Policy on Display for Consumer Search,” while keeping the underlying display rules largely in place.
Bright said it will introduce a mechanism for reporting websites that fail to remove information added to MLS listings, with the MLS pursuing enforcement against publishers that violate the updated policy. Rajeev Sajja, Bright MLS chief artificial intelligence and product officer, said the two-day submission requirement has been in place for a long time, and the added options allow compliance without increased exposure beyond what sellers are ready to share.
