China discloses high-power microwave weapon designs up to 100 gigawatts

China has disclosed details of high-power microwave weapon technology capable of producing outputs up to 100 gigawatts, according to defence scientists cited in a paper published this month, a rare public disclosure of a military arsenal.
The paper describes advanced pulsed-power devices developed by China’s military in recent years, with researchers from the National University of Defence Technology outlining how the technology evolved from laboratory prototypes into practical, durable systems.
China’s researchers, led by Zhang Jun of NUDT’s College of Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, said progress has been driven by sustained national strategic demands and that research now ranks among the world’s foremost.
SCMP Economy reports the paper could also act as a reference point for other countries evaluating potential vulnerabilities of massive satellite constellations.
