U.S. energy use rose 2% in 2025 to 96 quads
Petroleum remained the most-used energy source in 2025, and total consumption was still below the 2007 record of 99 quads.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that total U.S. energy consumption in 2025 reached 96 quadrillion British thermal units, up 2% from 2024.
The EIA said the 2025 total was below the 2007 record of 99 quads, and petroleum was the most-used energy source last year.
