CAISO solar generation surpasses natural gas in first five months of 2026
Utility scale solar generation rose 21% year over year in the first five months of 2026, while natural gas generation fell 60%, according to the EIA.
Solar electricity generation in California Independent System Operator, or CAISO, utility-scale markets surpassed natural gas in the first five months of 2026, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. In that period, solar generation increased 21% versus the same months of 2024, while natural gas generation decreased by 60%.
