Russia bans all diesel exports through end of July

The ban follows Ukrainian drone strikes that crippled Gazprom Neft’s Omsk refinery, including damage to a unit tied to up to 40% of the plant’s capacity.

Russia has banned all diesel exports in an effort to protect its domestic fuel market after Ukrainian drone strikes hit the country’s energy infrastructure, according to OilPrice.

The export embargo, cited by Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, covers all diesel shipments and closes a loophole that previously allowed self-producing oil firms to sell abroad. The ban is scheduled to stay in effect through the end of July.

OilPrice reports that a long-range Ukrainian strike on Tuesday crippled Gazprom Neft’s Omsk oil refinery, Russia’s largest fuel processing plant, by knocking out its primary crude distillation units.

At least four strikes hit the refinery’s ELOU-AVT-11 primary crude oil processing unit, which accounts for up to 40% of the facility’s total production capacity, while Ukraine also targeted oil infrastructure near the Port of St. Petersburg earlier this week, the outlet said.
