Guyana oil output nears one million bpd as new offshore projects ramp
Government data shows Guyana produced 888,000 bpd by end of May 2026, and a new ExxonMobil project is set to add 250,000 bpd once at capacity.
Guyana has rapidly emerged as a major oil exporter in the Americas, with its offshore industry expanding in just four years from first discovery to first oil. Oilprice reports Guyana is pumping nearly one million barrels per day, making it South America’s third-largest oil producer.
According to official government data cited by Oilprice, Guyana lifted 888,000 barrels of crude per day at the end of May 2026, down 4% from 924,000 bpd at the start of the month. The country has four active floating production, storage, and offloading vessels operating offshore.
Oilprice says a fifth FPSO, the Errea Wittu, is expected to begin during 2026 when the Uaru project comes online. The outlet adds that ExxonMobil’s $12.7 billion Uaru project is expected to add 250,000 bpd at capacity, which would push Guyana over one million bpd and potentially surpass Venezuela for second place behind Brazil.
