US initial jobless claims hold near 215,000 in latest data

Continuing claims were 1.8 million, while the four-week moving average for initial claims rose to 218.8 thousand.

US initial jobless claims came in at 215,000 for the latest week, compared with an estimate of 218,000, keeping the report near recent levels. Forexlive said the prior week’s figure was revised to 215,000 from 217,000.

Forexlive also reported continuing claims at 1.806 million for the prior week, revised from 1.814 million, while the latest reading was 1.814 million versus a 1.815 million estimate.

The four-week moving average for initial claims was 218.8 thousand, up 7,000 from the prior period, according to Forexlive, with the overall picture described as steady rather than sharply worsening.

The release continued to reflect a pattern of no significant “higher” or “fire” bias overall, as characterized by Forexlive based on the initial and continuing claims data.
