Canada added 18,000 jobs in June, easing unemployment to 6.5%

Canada’s June jobs report showed private-sector hiring, public-sector declines, and a steady labor force participation rate at 65%.

Canada’s economy added 18,000 jobs in June, a modest gain of 0.1% month over month that was broadly in line with expectations for about a 10,000 increase, according to Action Forex.

The report said employment gains were concentrated in the private sector, while public-sector employment declined over the month.

Canada’s unemployment rate eased to 6.5% from 6.6%, with the labor supply described as stable, as the labor force participation rate held at 65%.
