Tanker traffic drops in Strait of Hormuz after US-Iran ceasefire breaks

Maritime data shows transits fell to 14 vessels on Thursday, down from 35 a day earlier, leaving traffic still far below normal levels even after a June 17 ceasefire framework.

The Strait of Hormuz saw tanker and other vessel traffic slump again after the United States ended its ceasefire with Iran, a move that has raised concerns among analysts about renewed escalation and disruption risk, according to SCMP Economy.

Veson Nautical data showed traffic dropped on Thursday to 14 vessels transiting the strait, down from 35 a day earlier, while MarineTraffic indicated movements were largely paused on Friday.

Since Washington and Tehran announced a ceasefire framework on June 17, about 513 vessels had passed through the waterway, but that pace still equated to only about one-fifth of the roughly 2,500 vessel transits typically recorded under normal conditions, Veson Nautical said.

Kpler data for the same period found 759 commodity related vessels transited the strait, with daily passages falling from 37 on Tuesday to 15 on Thursday, SCMP Economy reported.
