21st Century ROAD to Housing Act becomes law as Trump takes no action

The bill, which passed the Senate 85-5 and the House 358-32, includes a $200 million grant program to help municipalities cut red tape and zoning barriers.

HousingWire reports that the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act became law after President Donald Trump took no action before the sign-or-veto deadline, following the bill’s approval by both chambers of Congress.

The legislation cleared the Senate 85-5 on June 22 and the House 358-32 on June 23, then returned to the White House on June 29. A 10-day clock began then, excluding Sundays, and the bill ultimately became law without Trump’s signature.

Key provisions highlighted by HousingWire include an FHA small-dollar mortgage pilot, streamlined zoning frameworks, and higher FHA multifamily loan limits. The package is also designed to reduce regulatory friction to make homeownership more attainable.

HousingWire also notes that the final bill includes a $200 million grant funding program to reward municipalities that successfully eliminate excessive red tape and burdensome zoning, with provisions drawn from more than 60 bills introduced in Congress.
