Trump admin subpoenas NYT journalists over Air Force One security report

Federal agents delivered the subpoenas to reporters at home, seeking testimony before a Manhattan grand jury on Wednesday.

The Trump administration has subpoenaed several New York Times journalists over the paper’s reporting that raised security concerns about the new Air Force One, the Associated Press reported, citing the newspaper.

The new jet, which President Donald Trump received as a gift from Qatar, entered service last week, and the subpoenas issued Friday aim to compel the reporters to testify before a federal grand jury in Manhattan on Wednesday.

According to the report, federal agents delivered some of the subpoenas to reporters at their homes, and there was no immediate response from the White House or the Department of Justice to requests for comment Saturday.

In a statement, David McCraw, a lawyer for the Times, said the appearance of federal law enforcement agents at news reporters’ doorsteps should shock the conscience of Americans who value constitutional press freedom, while the paper characterized the move as a major escalation.
