Hong Kong reviews possible negligence after 15-year complaint delay
Health Secretary Lo Chung-mau said the case was referred to the Civil Service Bureau after delays occurred across multiple stages of the Medical Council process.
Hong Kong authorities are reviewing whether civil servants neglected their duties in a 15-year delay by the Medical Council in handling a complaint against a paediatrician tied to a boy’s permanent disability, according to SCMP Economy.
The case dates to a complaint filed in 2010 by mainland Chinese parents after their son suffered a seizure at Hong Kong Baptist Hospital in December 2009 and was later left with cerebral palsy and quadriplegia, leaving him unable to care for himself.
SCMP Economy reports that Health Secretary Lo Chung-mau said delays happened in different parts of the process that were not supposed to occur, and he added that the matter has been referred to the Civil Service Bureau for handling under the city’s civil service performance mechanism.
