UK regions face exceptional wildfire risk as heatwave persists
Natural England says the exceptional-risk zone is expected to grow and spread to the South East and east of England by midweek.
Parts of the United Kingdom are facing an “exceptional” risk of wildfires as a heatwave continues, according to warnings cited by SCMP Economy.
Natural England highlighted southern England and the Midlands as the highest-risk areas, with its fire severity index indicating the exceptional-risk zone is expected to increase and spread to the South East and east of England by the middle of the week.
The rest of England and Wales is largely categorized as “very high” wildfire risk over the coming days, the outlet said, as conditions remain dry and very hot.
The Met Office expects scorching weather to continue into the coming week, and Dave Swallow of the National Fire Chiefs Council said such heat significantly increases wildfire risk.
