Chinese carmakers highlighted at Paris Motor Show amid curbs

Allianz Trade said Chinese marques made up half of this year’s show exhibitors.

Chinese carmakers were not represented at a dinner on Sunday attended by French President Emmanuel Macron and around 60 European automotive industry players, according to SCMP Economy. They were, however, prominent the next day when Macron visited the Paris Motor Show.

Against the backdrop of a China-EU agreement, Chinese brands are dealing with the fallout by more visibly aligning their messaging with European political priorities. SCMP Economy reports the companies are showcasing commitments to investing in Europe and creating jobs.

Allianz Trade, cited by SCMP Economy, estimated that Chinese marques comprised half of the exhibitors at this year’s show, even as the sector prepares for tightening import curbs.
