Operation Santa Claus funding applications target poverty and inclusion

Operation Santa Claus said it received 102 applications by June 10, with projects aimed at working poor, health and well-being, and inclusivity.

Charities applying for this year’s Operation Santa Claus funding round in Hong Kong are aiming to address underlying social problems rather than provide only short-term financial support, organisers said, according to SCMP Economy.

The campaign, jointly organised by the South China Morning Post and public broadcaster RTHK, received 102 funding applications by its June 10 deadline, organisers said.

Senior manager Rachel Chow Chiu-yan said applicants are moving toward longer-term, more system-focused projects, with proposals described as more sophisticated than in past rounds.

SCMP Economy reported that the applications are centered on three priority areas identified by OSC, poverty; health and well-being; and inclusivity, with many proposals focused on helping the working poor achieve longer-term financial self-sufficiency despite full-time work.
