US Ebola patient treated in Frankfurt after Congo Bundibugyo infection

The patient arrived at Frankfurt University Hospital’s special isolation unit around 3am local time, and officials said there is no risk to the public or other patients because the unit is fully separated.

A United States citizen infected with the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was admitted to Frankfurt University Hospital early Monday, according to hospital officials.

The patient arrived at the hospital’s special isolation unit at around 3am local time after contracting the Bundibugyo variant of Ebola in Congo, the hospital said.

Reuters reported that the US CDC said on Friday the case involved a US citizen working for a humanitarian organization in Congo who tested positive for the Bundibugyo Ebola virus.

The patient’s condition was described as stable, and the hospital said there is no risk to the public or other patients because the individual is treated in complete isolation in a structurally and organizationally separated unit.
