Global LNG trade volumes hit a record in 2025
Volumes rose 5.4% to 56.3 Bcf/d last year, helped by expanding U.S. LNG export capacity, while growth has since slowed after Qatar’s key export route closed.
Global liquefied natural gas trade reached a record high in 2025, increasing 5.4% to 56.3 billion cubic feet per day, according to an EIA summary of a report from GIIGNL.
The EIA said the jump was driven largely by rising U.S. LNG export capacity designed to meet growing global demand for the fuel.
Looking into 2026, the EIA noted that global LNG trade has slowed this year following the closure of Qatar’s key export route.
