ERCOT breaks record with peak power demand above 91 GW

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the grid operator serving most of Texas, recorded a new peak-hour demand level on July 22, 2026, according to data in the Hourly Electric Grid Monitor.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration said ERCOT’s hourly peak load exceeded 91 gigawatts, reaching 91.1 GW at the record high.

The peak was measured using data reported to the monitoring program, reflecting the highest electricity demand hour in the ERCOT dataset being tracked.
