Solana community lead enters UK by-election with onchain transparency plan
The Aug. 13 Clacton by-election centers on whether Farage declared a 5 million pound crypto-linked gift, with the campaign promising onchain publication of donations and meetings.
Cointelegraph reports that Stephen “Cap” Newnham, a Solana community lead and head of Superteam UK, will run as an independent candidate in the Aug. 13 Clacton parliamentary by-election against Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
Newnham said he launched his candidacy on July 9 and outlined five campaign pledges, including support for local entrepreneurs, education in digital and artificial intelligence, financial literacy in schools, and what he calls onchain political transparency, plus a pension reform message focused on letting savers choose where their pension assets are held.
His pension pledge argues that structures such as self-invested personal pensions and small self-administered schemes allow savers to direct where their assets are kept. He also proposed full transparency for donations and meetings, published in plain English and onchain.
Cointelegraph notes the candidacy adds an explicit crypto platform to a contest triggered after Farage resigned from parliament on July 8 and opted to recontest the seat amid a parliamentary standards investigation. The investigation relates to whether Farage should have declared a 5 million pounds personal gift from crypto investor Christopher Harborne, which Farage said was not required because it was received before he entered parliament.
