Solo miner scores $200,000 BTC block reward with budget Bitaxe rig
The miner validated a block at height 957382 using a single Bitaxe rig priced under $200, contributing to more than $4.7 million paid to hobby-level solo miners over the past year.
A solo Bitcoin miner hit a rare jackpot by validating a solo block worth 3.125 BTC, currently about $200,000, using a single budget Bitaxe mining rig, according to Cointelegraph.
Cointelegraph said the block was mined on Friday at block number 957382, as shown by blockchain data from mempool.space, and that Public Pool linked the miner to the one-rig setup.
The Bitaxe is described as a lower-power miner costing less than $200 with an estimated hashrate of about 1 TH/s, a tiny share of Bitcoin’s overall network, highlighting the odds of a retail miner winning a statistically unusual payout.
Cointelegraph also reported that hobby-level solo miners have validated 24 blocks over the past year, totaling 75.4 BTC, or about $4.7 million, and that solo-block activity is up 41% year on year.
