Ex-Fed adviser John Rogers sentenced to 38 months in China secrets case

Prosecutors had sought five years, and the judge imposed 38 months after Rogers was convicted for lying to investigators about restricted Federal Reserve information being shared with Chinese intelligence agents.

A former senior adviser to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, John Harold Rogers, was sentenced to 38 months in prison in a case involving alleged sharing of restricted Federal Reserve information with Chinese intelligence operatives, the U.S. Justice Department said, according to SCMP Economy.

Rogers, 64, was convicted at trial on Feb. 3 for making false statements to federal investigators investigating whether he shared confidential monetary policy information. Prosecutors sought a five-year sentence.

SCMP Economy reported that U.S. District Judge Dabney Friederich imposed the 38-month term, with prison officials crediting the nearly 18 months Rogers already served in custody.

The Fed inspector general for the Board of Governors and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Michael E. Horowitz, said Rogers deliberately lied to conceal that he shared non public Federal Reserve information with intelligence agents working for China, while defense lawyers asked for no additional jail time beyond the time already served.
