Kazakhstan nuclear energy chief tours China facilities amid cooperation push
Kazakhstan selected China’s National Nuclear Corp. in 2025 to build two large-scale reactors, underscoring deepening nuclear ties as officials exchange visits.
OilPrice reports that Almassadam Satkaliyev, chairman of Kazakhstan’s Atomic Energy Agency, is on an extended tour of China’s nuclear-power facilities, where he reviewed sites spanning the development cycle from design and construction through operation.
During the trip, Satkaliyev visited China’s Tianwan plant, which is fully operational, and the Xuwei nuclear facility, which is under construction, along with uranium mining and fuel production sites and research and training entities.
The tour included meetings with Chinese government officials and executives from major nuclear companies, occurring shortly after a visit to Kazakhstan by Wang Hongzhi, head of China’s National Energy Administration.
OilPrice also notes that Kazakhstan chose China’s National Nuclear Corp. in 2025 to build two large-scale reactors, and that earlier, China and Kazakhstan signed a protocol defining future cooperation in the nuclear energy sphere.
