Keel Infrastructure advances 96 MW AI campus using existing power

The project is set to consolidate three Québec Bitcoin mining sites into a single 96 MW campus, after the city approved an agreement with Hydro-Sherbrooke and a land purchase.

Keel Infrastructure Corp. said it has secured key approvals to move forward with a data center project in Sherbrooke, Québec, converting existing capacity into a 96 MW AI and high performance computing campus.

According to Bitcoin Magazine, the City of Sherbrooke cleared Keel to enter into an agreement with Hydro-Sherbrooke to transfer and operate 96 megawatts of existing capacity, along with a purchase agreement for the land where the campus will be built.

Keel plans to use the power deal to consolidate three of its current Bitcoin mining sites in Québec into one location, and it said it did not seek additional power to preserve the use of current electrical infrastructure while aligning with Québec’s energy priorities.

The company also received approval to recategorize the 96 MW from Bitcoin mining to high performance computing and artificial intelligence, a shift it frames as part of a broader industry move toward repurposing energized sites for compute, though it noted remaining conditions, including review by Québec’s Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy for the energy capacity transfer.
