Taiwan opposition party sends first mainland China delegation in its history
The nine-member Taiwan People’s Party group will hold a four-day visit in Shanghai focused on youth exchanges and AI as it seeks to reduce misunderstandings across the Taiwan Strait.
SCMP Economy reports that Taiwan’s opposition Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) has dispatched its first formal delegation to mainland China since the party was founded, aiming to support cross-strait peace through dialogue amid heightened tensions with Beijing.
The nine-member delegation left for Shanghai on Tuesday for a four-day visit, with the program centered on youth exchanges, urban governance, artificial intelligence, and broader technological innovation and entrepreneurship.
According to SCMP Economy, the TPP said the trip is intended to build goodwill and mutual trust through pragmatic engagement, while also reducing misunderstandings across the Taiwan Strait.
Before departure, TPP leadership emphasized the need to maintain communication at a time when cross-strait politics and the wider global environment are both described as tense, arguing that dialogue is particularly important when differences increase.
