US reimposes naval blockade on Iranian ports as strikes hit Hormuz

A new wave of US precision strikes aimed at Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping comes after a prior agreement was undermined, while Tehran vows the waterway will remain closed until US actions stop.

South China Morning Post reports that five months into the US-Israeli war on Iran, hostilities have intensified again, with US President Donald Trump reimposing a naval blockade on Iranian ports and the US carrying out fresh strikes on Tehran-linked targets.

According to SCMP Economy, the US military said it launched a “90-minute wave” of precision strikes that further degraded Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, where the renewed blockade is tied to restrictions on tanker traffic.

The outlet also reports that the renewed escalation follows an agreement reached last month that has been undermined, and that the latest US strikes coincided with reports of more than 260 people wounded.

SCMP Economy adds that Tehran has responded with retaliatory drone and missile attacks on US-linked targets in Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait, and it vowed the waterway would stay closed until the US ends its aggression.
