Vietnam arrests publishing executives over controversial Ho Chi Minh book

Police say the book was recalled under pressure from authorities after officials accused it of distorting party and state history.

Vietnam police said they have arrested three executives from a publishing house tied to a controversial Ho Chi Minh book, after the author and a social media influencer were detained earlier in July on anti state charges, according to SCMP Economy.

The book, titled Stories with Thanh, A New Account of Light, was published in May by the Vietnam Writers' Association Publishing House, and police said the author, Nguyen Thanh Nam, a former telecoms executive, was arrested in early July along with an influencer who promoted the book online, the outlet reported.

Police also said the director, editor in chief, and head of the editorial board were charged with producing, possessing, distributing, or disseminating information or materials aimed at opposing the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and that they were involved in editing, revising, publishing, and promoting the book.

According to a police statement cited by SCMP Economy, authorities accused the book of distorting the history of Vietnam's revolutions and the policies and guidelines of the party and state, and the publisher recalled the title under pressure from officials.
