White House to meet senators over ethics provision in crypto Clarity Act
The most contested remaining section is limits on senior officials personal crypto ties, amid a tight Senate calendar for passage this year.
CoinDesk reports that senior White House officials are expected to meet with U.S. senators on Thursday to try to resolve the hardest remaining issue in the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a bill aimed at regulating crypto markets in the United States.
According to people briefed on the plans, negotiators are still working to close the gap over the legislation's ethics provision, which would restrict senior government officials personal business interests in the crypto sector, an area Democrats have pushed hardest to address.
The report says Democrats have sought limits that most significantly target President Donald Trump's personal ties to the industry, but negotiators have been unable to reach a compromise even as the Senate runway narrows.
CoinDesk also notes that an almost final version of the bill text was expected to begin circulating, but talks could delay circulation later in the week, and it cites additional political pressure after disclosure related to Trump's crypto industry involvement.
