ASML stays pivotal as global chip sales surge on AI demand

Semiconductor Industry Association data cited by Yahoo Finance shows April chip sales up 93.9% year over year, while Bernstein has raised its ASML price target.

ASML Holding N.V. remains a key supplier for the AI chip supply chain as advanced semiconductor demand continues to rise, according to Yahoo Finance. The outlet points to ASML’s role in providing lithography systems used to produce leading edge logic and memory chips.

Yahoo Finance highlights that the Semiconductor Industry Association said global chip sales increased 93.9% year over year in April, supported by demand for AI infrastructure and accelerated computing platforms. It links that strength to demand for ASML’s extreme ultraviolet lithography tools, which are described as central to advanced node production.

The piece also says ASML’s systems are difficult to replicate because they combine optics, light sources, software, precision engineering, supply chain coordination, and years of customer process knowledge. It notes the main risk is cyclicality, since chip manufacturers may defer equipment orders if demand weakens or if export restrictions limit sales.

Despite that risk, Yahoo Finance argues the growing complexity of advanced chips makes lithography capability more strategically important over time, especially for manufacturers building chips for AI servers, mobile processors, and high bandwidth memory. The article adds that on July 6, Bernstein raised its price target on ASML, citing the company’s importance to the equipment needed for advanced chip production.
