Howden Re names Jay Sogliuzzo MD for North America Marine, Energy & Terror

Sogliuzzo joins from Gen Re, where he worked across facultative and treaty marine and energy reinsurance, including underwriting for the US, Canada, and the Caribbean.

Howden Re has appointed Jay Sogliuzzo as managing director and head of North America Marine, Energy and Terror Specialty Treaty. The reinsurance broker said Sogliuzzo brings 14 years of underwriting experience across upstream energy, ocean marine, and inland marine, along with established relationships with clients and underwriters across North America.

Sogliuzzo joins Howden Re from Gen Re, where he worked across facultative and treaty reinsurance in the marine and energy market. Most recently, he served as vice president and senior underwriting specialist underwriting all lines of ocean marine reinsurance, including treaty and facultative business, across the US, Canada, and the Caribbean.

Howden Re said the appointment reflects its continued investment in its global Marine, Energy and Terror platform, aimed at expanding specialist capabilities in North America. The firm pointed to shifting risk conditions as geopolitical tensions and energy security concerns reshape exposures tied to marine, energy, and political violence risks.

The broker added that disruption around the Strait of Hormuz has intensified underwriting scrutiny, reshaped risk appetite, and highlighted the need to understand geopolitical accumulation risk across interconnected portfolios. It also described North America as a key opportunity for the Marine, Energy and Terror market, citing concentrations of offshore energy, marine infrastructure, and cargo exposures, particularly along the Gulf Coast.
