Ledger launches open-source toolkit for AI agents to work with wallets

Ledger Agent Stack lets AI agents read balances and prepare transactions, but every sensitive action must be approved on a Ledger hardware device before it executes.

CoinDesk reports Ledger has launched Ledger Agent Stack, an open-source toolkit aimed at helping AI agents interact with crypto wallets without taking control of users’ private keys.

The toolkit allows AI software to read wallet balances, analyze portfolios, prepare transactions, and propose payments. However, Ledger said every sensitive action must be explicitly approved on a Ledger hardware device before it can be executed, positioning human sign off as a safeguard against autonomous fund moves.

Ledger framed the launch as the first step in its 2026 AI roadmap, arguing that hardware based security can be carried into AI powered crypto applications. In its release, Ledger emphasized a model of agents proposing while humans approve.

The company said the approach is intended to reduce the risk that an AI agent could act on its own if it is hacked or manipulated, since attackers would still need the device level approval step. Ledger also said it is adding features for developers to store sensitive AI credentials securely and to use Ledger devices as physical security keys for services including GitHub, Discord, and 1Password.
