Mereo Insurance joins ABIR as newest full member in Bermuda
ABIR data shows its member firms grew gross written premium 10% year over year in 2024 to more than $188 billion.
Mereo Insurance Limited has joined the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers as its newest full member, according to Reinsurance News. ABIR represents Bermuda’s leading commercial insurers and reinsurers, which it says are among the island’s largest economic contributors.
ABIR highlighted 2024 industry performance in its latest Global Underwriting Report. It said ABIR member companies recorded a 10% year over year increase in gross written premium in 2024, reaching more than $188 billion, and that total equity rose 8.5% to $178 billion.
Mereo, a Bermuda-based reinsurance platform founded in February 2025, is led by industry veterans Brian Duperreault, executive chairman, and David Croom-Johnson, chief executive officer. The firm is licensed by the Bermuda Monetary Authority and focuses on flexible, scalable risk transfer solutions that combine reinsurance underwriting experience with capital markets capabilities.
ABIR chair Mark Cloutier said Mereo’s arrival reflects continued confidence in Bermuda as a hub for insurance and reinsurance innovation. Mereo CEO Croom-Johnson added that Bermuda’s talent base, regulatory environment, and access to global capital align with the firm’s long-term vision, while ABIR CEO John Huff welcomed Mereo as an innovative new entrant.
