Sagimet Biosciences added to Russell 3000 and Russell 2000 indexes
The inclusion, part of the 2026 Russell reconstitution, also brings cross-index visibility as the company prepares for its denifanstat Phase 3 acne study.
Sagimet Biosciences Inc. was added to the broader Russell 3000 Index and the small-cap focused Russell 2000 Index as part of the Russell Indexes reconstitution for 2026, according to Yahoo Finance.
The June reconstitution incorporates about 4,000 of the largest U.S. companies based on market capitalization as of the April 30 close. Inclusion in the Russell 3000 means the stock is automatically added to either the Russell 1000 or the Russell 2000, and it can also trigger inclusion in indexes with value or growth tilts.
Sagimet CEO David Happel said the company’s inclusion reflects progress made over the years and highlighted expectations that it will start its Phase 3 clinical study on denifanstat. He added that if approved, denifanstat would be the first innovative oral treatment for acne vulgaris in patients aged 12 years and older in more than forty years.
Happel also said the company has capital in place to fund programs through 2028, including a data readout for the planned denifanstat Phase 3 trial, and he tied the move to the broader visibility that comes with Russell index inclusion.
