Saronic Technologies wins $3.2B military contract via Port of Brownsville site
Cameron County commissioners approved a $211 million incentive package, including a 95% tax abatement over 20 years, as the project targets a 2028 launch.
ConnectCRE reports that Saronic Technologies Inc. will use the Port of Brownsville as the base for its Port Alpha project, after being selected for a $3.2 billion military contract over a Bay Area competitor.
Saronic is pitching the initiative as a next-generation shipyard to build advanced autonomous vessels. The company plans to break ground this year and bring the site online in 2028.
The planned ground-up facility is described as a large-scale shipbuilding and maritime industrial operation designed for the construction, integration, and launch of ships in a high-production environment.
According to ConnectCRE, Cameron County commissioners court approved a $211 million tax break for Saronic, structured as a 95% tax abatement over 20 years, and Pointe Isabel Independent School District previously voted to provide $517 million in school tax abatements through 2034. The project is expected to create 10,000 jobs.
