Uber agrees to buy Delivery Hero in $14.8bn global deal
The deal will keep Delivery Hero’s Berlin headquarters and workforce unchanged until at least 2029, while Uber pays $13.7bn after prior share purchases.
Uber has agreed to acquire Germany’s Delivery Hero in a $14.8bn deal aimed at creating a larger global takeaway and delivery business.
Under the terms, Uber will offer €41.50 per Delivery Hero share, valuing the company at $14.8bn, and will pay $13.7bn after accounting for its earlier purchases of a 25 percent stake, most recently in May.
Uber said the acquisition would combine Uber Eats with Delivery Hero’s food delivery brands across 99 countries, including foodpanda, PedidosYa, and talabat, and that the combined company booked $236bn in orders in 2025.
The agreement also includes an exception for 14 countries where Uber already has a strong presence, such as markets served by the Glovo app, foodora, and Yemeksepeti, with those operations to be bought for $1.6bn by SSW Partners. Housing the deal structure is intended to reduce competition concerns, and Uber said it will maintain Delivery Hero’s Berlin headquarters and make no workforce changes until at least 2029, according to the Guardian Business.
