ESMA adds 14 CASPs to MiCA register as licensing pace slows

The regulator raised the total number of licensed crypto-asset service providers to 294, after adding 37 CASPs in its first major post-deadline update on July 3.

European regulator ESMA added 14 more crypto firms to its Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework register, indicating a slower licensing pace after an initial surge. According to Cointelegraph, ESMA updated its interim MiCA register on Thursday, taking the total number of licensed crypto-asset service providers, or CASPs, to 294.

The new CASP entries include Ripple Payments Europe, the European payments arm of blockchain company Ripple, along with Portugal-based Bison Bank and Croatia’s state-owned bank Hrvatska poštanska banka (HPB). The update also added two cooperative banks from Germany, Volksbank Schwarzwald-Donau-Neckar and Raiffeisenbank Auerbach-Freihung.

ESMA also expanded private banking participation in regulated crypto services by adding Kaiser Partner Privatbank, a Liechtenstein-based firm. The register continues to include a range of traditional financial institutions, including Spain’s BBVA and CaixaBank, Germany’s Commerzbank, France’s CACEIS Bank, and Standard Chartered Luxembourg.

Cointelegraph reports that ESMA made no changes to its registers for electronic money tokens (EMTs) or asset-referenced tokens (ARTs). As of the latest update, the EMT register counted 21 unique issuers, while the ART register continued to list no approved issuers.
