Nasdaq-100 sees a technical “squeeze” as volatility contracts
The Nasdaq-100’s squeeze is tied to a diamond top formation, which Barchart says could set up a quick breakout even as the index’s direction remains uncertain.
Barchart Insights says the Nasdaq-100 Index is entering a rare technical setup marked by a “squeeze,” following a period of contracting volatility.
The outlet links the signal to a Diamond Top formation it has highlighted for the index, which also serves as the benchmark for the widely followed Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ).
Barchart notes that QQQ is heavily concentrated, with its top 10 holdings accounting for nearly 45% of the ETF, and that those names closely track the AI trade, including Nvidia, Micron, and Advanced Micro Devices.
The piece adds that the squeeze itself does not forecast direction, but it may offer technical clues as the market moves through early earnings season and July’s typical seasonal tendency.
