South Korea picks Vietnam as a logistics hub for expanding K-food exports
The plan calls for a new multimodal logistics hub in Hanoi, built with South Korea’s distribution agency, to lower transport costs and maintain cold-chain quality.
South Korea is designating Vietnam as a regional hub to expand the logistics, distribution and supply chains for Korean food exports to Southeast Asia, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said on July 7, following the Asean K-Food Fair 2026 in Hanoi, according to SCMP Economy.
The initiative includes a new multimodal logistics hub in Hanoi, built jointly by the ministry and the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corp, which serves as the distribution agency. The hub is intended to help exporters cut transport costs, preserve product quality and meet demand tied to the Hallyu wave across the region.
SCMP Economy reports that the Hanoi facility will use advanced storage and handling systems for fresh agricultural and livestock products, including rapid cooling and freezing rooms, as well as cold-chain packaging.
Analysts highlighted that the strategy will require more than cultural appeal, arguing exporters must pair the popularity of Korean culture with cold-chain reliability, local adaptation and a clearer premium offer for increasingly selective consumers in Southeast Asia.
