USGBC meets Indian shrimp feed makers to promote DDGS sustainability
The meetings in India brought multiple aquaculture companies onto the US Grains & Bioproducts Council’s Sustainable Grain Exports platform, aimed at supporting sustainability documentation for US feed ingredients.
The US Grains & Bioproducts Council, or USGBC, held meetings with Indian aquaculture industry stakeholders to promote US-origin distiller’s dried grains with solubles, known as DDGS, citing nutritional benefits and potential environmental advantages for shrimp diets, according to World Grain.
The USGBC team met with seven aquaculture producers across India and said the outreach led several companies to register on the Council’s Sustainable Grain Exports, or SGE, platform to strengthen their relationship with US feed grains.
USGBC sustainability staff also discussed the SGE platform’s related Corn Sustainability Assurance Protocol, or CSAP, and Sorghum Sustainability Assurance Protocol, or SSAP, which are designed to help importers and end-users support sustainability claims in mature markets, World Grain reported.
Industry officials said companies expressed interest in US DDGS for factors including consistent quality, competitive pricing, and sustainability records available through CSAP at no extra cost, with USGBC describing the effort as a way to expand demand for US corn co-products in the near future.
