Two US troops killed and one missing after Iran attack in Jordan
The US said the deaths followed Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks on a base in Jordan, with four other troops evacuated to Jordanian hospitals and later discharged.
The US military announced two American service members were killed and another was missing after an attack on a base in Jordan involving direct Iranian fire, marking the first such troop deaths since the opening days of the war, according to SCMP Economy.
The statement said the deaths occurred on Friday as US and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks, and that four other service members were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals and later discharged.
SCMP Economy also reported the US military did not identify the dead, and said that since the war began 16 US service members have been killed and more than 430 wounded.
The announcement came as Iran signaled further escalation, with state television carrying remarks attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei warning of consequences for the US and criticizing President Donald Trump, and after a negotiator said Tehran was suspending commitments under an interim deal signed about a month ago.
