China expands AI-powered Mazu weather warning system to seven countries
The public cloud version of the system has been tested by 40 Global South countries, according to reporting.
China has expanded the deployment of its AI-powered Mazu multi-hazard weather warning system to seven developing countries to help them prepare for disasters such as typhoons and rainstorms, according to SCMP Economy.
SCMP Economy reports that the system, known as Mazu, provides quicker access to meteorological data via a public cloud version and that the full on-the-ground setup has been physically integrated into daily operations in Pakistan, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Jordan, Mongolia, the Solomon Islands, and Sri Lanka.
The outlet also reports that People’s Daily said the public cloud version has been tested by 40 Global South countries, positioning Mazu as an international public good offering tailored early warning services for developing nations.
SCMP Economy adds that the system, named for the sea goddess Mazu, was designed for global use from the outset and was first unveiled last year at the World AI Conference in Shanghai.
