ETA chief Jason Oxman signals more Bitcoin startup partnerships
ETA said it added BitPay as its first virtual currency member, and Oxman told CoinDesk the group does not advocate for Bitcoin over other technologies.
Electronic Transactions Association CEO Jason Oxman said ETA members may begin recognizing Bitcoin’s disruptive potential, which could translate into more partnerships between traditional electronic payments companies and Bitcoin startups, Cointelegraph reports.
Oxman said the ETA does not advocate for Bitcoin and has not taken an official position that disadvantages other technologies, arguing that the trade group’s support extends to all forms of electronic transactions.
Cointelegraph also reports that the ETA welcomed BitPay on Aug. 6, describing the move as part of the organization’s commitment to embrace new technologies and its expectation of additional partnerships as the payments industry innovates.
The article adds that Oxman referenced the role of the Bitcoin Foundation in educating the ETA on Bitcoin’s benefits, and he discussed how the association previously worked to avoid government constraints on new payment options while regulators focused on customer protection.
